Charlie Adam insists Scotland's friendly against Brazil was a worthwhile exercise despite the manner of their defeat against the five-time world champions.
Craig Levein's men were utterly outplayed at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon and could have suffered a far worse loss than the 2-0 scoreline suggested.
"Teams like that make you do that," said midfielder Adam. "It was a valuable experience for us. It'll stand us in good stead for the qualifiers and the two games (Carling Nations Cup matches against Wales and the Republic of Ireland) we've got at the end of the season."
Comparing Brazil to Group I rivals Spain, he added: "They've got some of the best players in the world, like Spain.
"It's great to be part of it, playing against Spain and Brazil. They don't come along very often.
"But the results in the past couple have been good apart from today and we'll learn from it.
"It's one of these games where you can't be overawed and, at times, I thought we did okay."
Adam suffered an injury scare in the second half after hurting his knee making a challenge but he insisted it was nothing serious and was hopeful of being fit for Blackpool's crucial Barclays Premier League game at Fulham next Sunday.
"I just got a whack on it as I went to make a tackle," he said.
"We clashed knees but I'll be all right and hopefully be ready for the weekend."
