Adam Looking Forward To Brazilian Challenge

23 March 2011 10:46
Charlie Adam was just a boy the last time Scotland met Brazil. He hopes he is man enough to make Sunday's team. Charlie Adam is looking forward to adding Sunday's game at the Emirates to his only other memory of Scotland playing Brazil. He can only recall the opening game of the 1998 World Cup when a Tom Boyd own-goal saw Scotland lose 2-1 to the then world champions in Paris. Hwever, Adams is well aware of past games against the Samba stars - including David Narey's famous goal back in 1982. The midfielder wants Craig Levein's class of 2011 to make sure they put on a show against the Brazilians on Sunday.  He said: "At France 98 we lost in Paris but that's the only game I really remember. David Narey's toe-poke against Brazil made him a legend! I just hope the current squad we've got now is good enough to put up a good show and get a good performance. It'll be a fantastic occasion and hopefully I'll get the opportunity to play. Brazil are one of the best teams in the world and they've got some of the best players. It's great that I've been picked for the squad and hopefully we'll get the right result."  Ticket sales have reached over 30,000 and thousands of the Tartan Army will be heading to Highbury and the Emirates Stadium for the highly-anticipated game this weekend. Adam went on: "It'll be like a home game and I'll be looking forward to it. They always say Scotland fans go for a good time. They'll be there in their numbers to support the team and hopefully we'll get a good result for them and they can have a great weekend. I've got a lot of family and friends going to the game. They're looking forward to it because not many have been to the Emirates before. It'll be good to see all the players who are playing."  Asked which Brazil stars he admires the most, the Blackpool midfielder said: "They've got so many - Ronaldinho, Kaka, Alves. They've got fantastic players and it doesn't matter who they bring on the pitch they're going to be world class. Any time you can step on the pitch with players like these it's going to be a very proud moment. The most important thing is the result and hopefully we can get the right result."  The 1998 World Cup was the last time Scotland featured at a major tournament but Adam is confident they can qualify for major finals again. He went on: "Of course we can. We've got a good enough squad and we're in an okay position. This game against Brazil is a good warm-up game for us until the next games at the end of the season and for the championships next season."
