A Win Would Be A Welcome Boost
Dons looking to follow the lead taken by St Johnstone and Killie
Craig Brown is looking for Aberdeen to boost their season by beating Celtic tomorrow. The Dons host the Parkhead side and can overtake the opposition after losing just once in the SPL since the opening-day loss at Parkhead. Celtic have also been beaten just twice this season (to St Johnstone and Kilmarnock) around the time of their Champions League commitments. The Parkhead side will travel to Lisbon after Saturday to face Benfica on Tuesday. Brown said: "The mental factor is important. Kilmarnock and St Johnstone have done it. The publicity, the boost the clubs got, and the psychological boost, you can't measure that, not just for the players but the fans too. I'm still convinced Celtic have the best team and the best squad so if we do it it will be an achievement." With Celtic falling behind Hibs at the top of the SPL, fans around the country are hoping that there can be a real title race this season. However, Brown is refusing to get carried away. He said: "The league has a long way to go. If we were here with half a dozen games left we would be really in with an outstanding chance. We still are, I'm not denying that. To be in touch with Celtic who are champions-elect in my book is good. But we have to get a victory on Saturday to stay where we are or at least not lose the game. We are not going out on Saturday with the 'not lose' mentality. We are going out thinking with home support, with us being on a good run of form without being brilliant and therefore we are going to try to win the game."
