A Little Misunderstanding In Turkey For Mehmet

28 May 2010 23:41
You have to be careful of things that can get lost in translation Turkish football new boy Billy Mehmet is hopeful he can follow in Colin Kazim-Richards' bootsteps and break into the full Turkey national squad following his move to Genclerbirligi. The ex-Buddy signed a three-year contract with the club that plays in Ankara, the Turkish capital. He decided to move to Turkey after he was not offered a new deal at St Mirren following five-years with the Paisley side. Mehmet say he is looking to make a major impact in Ankara and with his Turkish heritage, has one eye on making the national squad. Mehmet said, who has previously played for Ireland's Under-21s: "I am delighted to be moving, and I admit that making the international squad would be a dream come true for me. Previously Kazim-Richards came to Turkey, did well and got selected - and I too hope that could happen with some good performances for Genclerbirligi."Mehmet has also fallen foul of the local media and moved to clear up suggestions that he was looking to build up towards a move to one of Turkey's big clubs in Fenerbahce or Galatasaray. He said: "To be honest my words were a little misquoted on the local media, I simply said I cannot wait to play against teams like Fener and Gala, and that will be amazing.  My thoughts are totally with Genclerbirligi and all I want is to do well and do my best for them."
