10% Return For Stirling Albion

Finding four new players is not bad for a club in the close season. And they also made money out of the exercise! Four players from Stirling Albion’s ‘So You Think You’re Good Enough’ football trial have had their trial period extended by the club. Thirty nine hopefuls paid £200 a head to take part in bounce games at the Doubletree Dunblane Stadium on Saturday 4June in front of manager Jocky Scott and former Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax striker Alli Dick. Scott has asked four players to join his squad for three important pre-season games against Rangers, Cove Rangers and Cliftonville to allow him and assistant manager John Blackley to watch them in further competitive situations. Scott will make a decision on offering contracts after the three competitive games are complete. He said: "All twelve of the players from the ‘So You Think You’re Good Enough’ trial, who we asked to join our pre-season training camp, were there on merit and had a real chance of being offered a contract with the club. However as the rest of our squad has grown through new signings it’s become much clearer who we believe could have the best fit in the overall squad." The four players are: goalkeeper Sam Filler, midfielder Paul Scott and defenders Kevin McCann and John Crawley. Scott broke the bad news to the other eight players who would not be asked to stay on at a final training session last night (7 July). Scott went on: "Every player who took part is a credit to themselves. The attitude and commitment shown by every one of them was magnificent and their application to the work and training we put in front of them over the last four weeks was never under question. The decisions that me and John have to make are all about getting the best possible squad mix in place for the start of the season. All four of the players we’ve invited back have a real chance and its now down to them to prove they are worth a place in our first team squad for next season."
