Volz hopes to impress Schalke

Former Arsenal and Fulham defender Moritz Volz is training with Schalke in a bid to earn a contract with the Bundesliga outfit.

The 26-year-old has been without a club since leaving Craven Cottage last summer.

Volz began his career at Schalke before joining Arsenal more than a decade ago.

He went on to feature in almost 150 games for Fulham but spent last season on loan with Ipswich Town, featuring in 23 matches for the Championship side.

Volz told Kicker: "I have not played a full match for almost 12 months, that is why I am delighted to have received the chance to join Schalke for training.

"The coaching staff of Felix Magath (Schalke's manager) are well known for getting players fit enough and this is my top priority.

"I have been injured quite often lately, but since Christmas time I am able to do full training and I am keen to know how I can handle training stress.

"I have never played in the Bundesliga, it would surely be a real challenge for me."
