German league club Cologne banned three fans on Thursday from football venues across Germany after identifying the trio who threw cups filled with either faeces or urine at a Bundesliga game last weekend.
The incident happened during last Saturday's German league game when Cologne lost 5-1 at Schalke 04 and the trio threw beer mugs full of human waste into a section of Schalke fans at the hosts' Gelsenkirchen stadium.
Fans from both teams were hit and the trio were later identified through video footage and witness statements.
The trio are now banned from all German football stadiums for the next three years -- the maximum punishment available.
"The three offenders have been identified and in all cases are banned from stadiums nationwide with immediate effect," said Rainer Mendel, a spokesman for Cologne's fans.
"We have made it clear that we will not tolerate such behaviour and strongly condemn what has happened."
