Schalke waiting on fitness of Perus Farfan

German Cup winners Schalke are waiting to hear how badly injured forward Jefferson Farfan is after he injured his left knee in Peru's defeat by Ecuador in a World Cup qualifier.
Schalke play Nuremberg in the Bundesliga on Saturday, but Farfan faces a race to be fit after coming off in the 66th minute of his country's 2-0 loss on Tuesday and will have a scan on Wednesday in Lima to assess the injury.
"We still don't know how bad it is," Schalke manager Horst Heldt told German daily Bild. "We are working intensively to get more information about his fitness. We are hoping of course that Farfan won't be out for long."
