Schalke swoop for youngster

Schalke have signalled their intent to build a more youthful squad after making Czech Republic Under-21 international Jan Moravek their first signing of the summer.

The 19-year-old midfielder has joined the rebuilding Bundesliga outfit on a four-year deal from Prague club Bohemians.

"Over the next few years we'll be putting our faith in talented youngsters," said Schalke chairman Josef Schnusenberg.

"Jan Moravek is one such player and we're delighted he's chosen to join Schalke.

"The transfer came about partly thanks to our UEFA Cup hero Jiri Nemec, who recommended him to us."
