Schalke fines for absent duo

Schalke have fined Jefferson Farfan and Rafinha following their late returns from the winter break.

Brazilian full-back Rafinha and Peru forward Farfan both failed to report back to the Gelsenkirchen club on time following the mid-season break.

"I wasn't expecting everybody to return to Germany in time after the break," said coach Felix Magath.

"However, the players who return too late will be handed a severe fine."

Farfan, who informed the club of his failure to make it back for the resumption of training on Wednesday, explained: "The club knew that I wouldn't be back in time.

"I know that I will be punished for returning too late, but I accept that."
