Schalke chase second place

Schalke moved up to second place in the Bundesliga with a convincing 3-0 victory at mid-table Bochum.

Goals from Gerald Asamoah, Ivan Rakitic and Marcelo Bordon ensured a good evening for the visitors in the Ruhrstadion.

Last season's champions, VfB Stuttgart saw their Champions League hopes ended by a 3-2 defeat at Borussia Dortmund.

Two goals from Alexander Frei and one by Tinga were enough for Dortmund to take all three points, despite Mario Gomez finding the net twice for the visitors.

Hansa Rostock are all but relegated after being beaten 3-0 at Hannover, with Hanno Balitsch and Jan Rosenthal (2) the goalscorers.

Energie Cottbus picked up a valuable point in their bid to beat the drop, as they secured a 1-1 draw at mid-table Karlsruhe.
