Schalke stars come to blows

Schalke 04 midfielder Jermaine Jones and striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar are the latest German league stars to come to blows after pictures emerged on Sunday of them fighting in training.

After Bayern Munich were reported to have fined French star Franck Ribery 50,000 euros ($66,000) for an alleged dressing room bust-up with team-mate Arjen Robben, the Schalke stars had to be separated at training on Saturday.

Holland's Huntelaar and USA star Jones traded blows and had to be restrained by team-mates as they prepared to face Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday, but Royal Blues manager Horst Heldt insisted it was a storm in a tea cup.

"Luckily, no one came out of it with a black eye," Heldt told German daily Bild.

"Things are alright again.

"It's not always a bad thing when players scrap, it clears the air."

Schalke coach Huub Stevens reacted by sending the pair for a few laps of the training pitch to cool off and said tensions were high with the Royal Blues eager to keep third place in the league with a fortnight left of the season.

"Things like this can happen in training," said the Dutchman.

"It shows how much fire there is in the team.

"On the way to Augsburg, we'll have a laugh about it."
