Bundesliga team Schalke 04 are set to offer former striker Raul a role as a club ambassador, Bild daily on Monday quoted owner Clement Tonnies as saying.

"I told him the door is still wide open to him - he can have a role as soon as he likes," said Tonnies, who indicated he saw the former Real Madrid and Spain star, who played for Schalke between 2010 and 2012, as filling an "ambassadorial role."

"He told me he will think about is seriously," added Tonnies.

Raul, 36, is currently winding down his playing career with Qatari side Al-Sadd.

The Spaniard won six league crowns with Real and three Champions League crowns in 16 years at the club before landing the 2011 German Cup with Schalke.

He was back in Germany a week ago with Al-Sadd for a farewell match at the Veltins Arena, where a 78,000 crowd gave him a standing ovation.
