Jones commits to Schalke

Germany international Jermaine Jones has penned a contract extension that will keep him at Schalke for another five years.

The 27-year-old has spent the last two seasons with Schalke following his transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Schalke chairman Josef Schnusenberg said of the news: "I am happy Jermaine will be staying with us for such a long time. He is a key figure in our plans."

Meanwhile, Jones hopes his decision will help to revive the club's fortunes, saying: "I want to give the signal to everyone that I am a Schalke player even though the times are tough.

"I want to help the club achieve a better future."

Schalke are currently mid-table in the Bundesliga.
