Dutch marksman Klaas-Jan Huntelaar says Schalke can win the German title this season as they look to overhaul a three-point deficit on mid-season leaders Bayern Munich.
"Of course we can be champions," Huntelaar told sports magazine Kicker's Thursday edition from the Schalke winter training cap in Doha.
"We are level on points with Dortmund and only three behind Bayern Munich. That shows we have regularly been piling up points away and if we go on in this vein we have a chance," said Huntelaar, who with 15 goals is only one strike behind Bayern sharpshooter Mario Gomez.
Schalke, already out of the German Cup, will resume league action on January 21 at home to Stuttgart while Bayern travel to Borussia Moenchengladbach and Dortmund take on Hamburg.
Gelsenkirchen-based Schalke are still in the Europa League and meet Czech outfit Viktoria Plzen in the last 32 next month.
