PSV Eindhoven's Peru striker Jefferson Farfan has decided to leave the Dutch champions to join Bundesliga side Schalke.
The 23-year-old has spent four seasons with PSV, helping the club to four successive league titles, but has now decided for a new challenge.
He told peru.com: "I accepted the offer from Schalke because I wanted to play in a more competitive league.
"I had offers from other clubs. There was an offer from Tottenham in England, another from Fiorentina in Italy and one more from a Russian club.
"What I decided with PSV was to look for a competitive team and obviously in a league which was a level above Dutch football, and for sporting reasons I accepted the offer from Schalke.
"I want to begin a new era in my life. It went well for me in Holland and I think that it was about time to leave and look for new horizons."
