Engelaar leaves Schalke for PSV

Netherlands international Orlando Engelaar has left Schalke and opted to join PSV Eindhoven.

The 29-year-old, who endured a disappointing season in the Bundesliga following his transfer from FC Twente last summer, had appeared to be on the verge of joining Panathinaikos only to have a last-minute change of heart.

Engelaar, who has penned a three-year deal with the Dutch side, has been signed as a replacement for Ecuadorian midfielder Edison Mendez, who is set to move to Qatar.

The midfielder, who had been linked with Everton, made 22 starts for Schalke last term, but spent most of the last two months of the campaign on the substitutes bench.
