Buskens eyes European place

Caretaker coach Mike Buskens has set his sights on European qualification following Schalke's 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich.

Halil Altintop's first-half header moved the Gelsenkirchen club up to sixth place in the table and a season which has failed to reach expectations could still end in qualification for UEFA's Europa League.

"My players fought superbly for each other and invested a lot in the game," said Buskens.

"Before the match, we said we wanted to be the third team after Bremen and Cologne to come away with all three points and we've gone out and done just that.

"We made sure Bayern had very little space, we went up their end and scored and it was enough."
