Saudi duo retire

24 Jun 2006 - 12:36:58

Saudi Arabia goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Deayea and striker Sami Al-Jaber announced their retirement from international football after Friday's 1-0 defeat to Spain.

The loss left the Saudis bottom of Group H with only one point from their three matches.

Al Deayea has won 181 caps for his country since for making his debut in 1990 and both players have appeared in four World Cup finals.

"I am very proud. This was my fourth World Cup and it will have a great memory for me because I managed to score a goal (against Tunisia) and we played a great game against Spain," said Al-Jaber.

"It feels just like yesterday that I started in my first World Cup (in 1994). Hopefully Saudi Arabia will develop their level and I will be able to help them.

"We showed against Spain that we prepared well for this World Cup and that the Ukraine result was just a bad day for us.

"If we had beaten Tunisia then maybe things could have been different, we were unlucky to concede a late equaliser."
