Sampdoria have sacked coach Ciro Ferrara and replaced him with Delio Rossi, the Serie A side said Monday following a weekend loss to Catania which left the Genoans just three points off the drop zone.
Ferrara had briefly looked to have saved himself after ending a recent run of seven straight losses with two wins - including a derby meeting with Genoa.
But one point from the last three games sealed his fate.
Delio Rossi, 52, has previosuly coached Lazio, Palermo and Fiorentina, where he was fired last season after hitting one of his players, the just substituted Adem Ljajic.
Ferrara's sacking came on the same day that Siena fired Serse Cosmi, bringing the total to seven this season in Italy.
Palermo sacked Giuseppe Sannino in September, with chairman Maurizio Zamparini taking on former Inter Milan handler Gian Piero Gasperini.
Chievo fired Domenico Di Carlo and brought in Eugenio Corini, while Cagliari's Massimo Ficcadenti gave way to Ivo Pulga.
Genoa dumped Gigi De Canio in October and drafted Luigi Del Neri while at Pescara, Cristiano Bergodi came in last month for Giovanni Stroppa, who resigned.
Last season, there were 19 dismissals in Serie A, which totals 20 clubs.
