The Russian Football Union (RFU) on Sunday slammed the dishonourable behaviour of some of the national side's supporters after UEFA said it would take action over their conduct.

The RFU appealed to Russian fans attending the group matches to resist outbreaks of hooliganism and remember at all times that they were representing their country.

"We consider that some of the country's fans who attended Russia's opening Euro-2012 match conducted themselves discreditably and acted dishonourably," the statement said.

"We appeal to all our fans who are currently in Poland. Please remember that you represent your country. Please respect yourself, your motherland and your team."
