Russia 0-0 Republic of Ireland: Match Report

06 September 2011 18:30

Shay Given and Richard Dunne frustrated Russia as the Republic of Ireland turned in a battling performance to snatch a 0-0 draw in Moscow.

Given produced three stunning saves, including one to keep out Konstantin Zyryanov's 88th-minute header, while Dunne made vital blocks from Igor Semshov and Roman Shirokov and Ireland left Russia with a point for the first time.

Russia, who went into the game two points clear of the Republic at the top of Group B, dominated throughout, but simply could not find a way through the green shirts as Ireland collected a seventh successive clean sheet.
