Medvedev to cheer on Russia at first game

Russia's Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev was on Friday due to attend his country's opening Euro 2012 match against the Czech Republic, UEFA told AFP on Friday.

But an official at European football's governing body said they would only know the day before Russia's match with co-hosts Poland on Tuesday whether both Medvedev and recently re-elected President Vladimir Putin would be at the game.

Russia versus the Czech Republic takes place in the western Polish city of Wroclaw at 1845 GMT but it is next week's game with Poland that is one of the early crunches, given the countries' shared history.
