We should have done better - Cresswell
Skipper Ryan Cresswell tells todays Tiser that Saturdays win meant nothing after a disappointing end to the season. The skipper looks back at the season, which promised much and delivered nowt, and in a honest interview he lays the blame with the players. “Due to our own performances Ronnie Moore got the sack, which we felt bad about, and then Andy Liddell and Paul Warne took over but I think the chairman always wanted to have a (permanent) manager and we’ve got one now." He said. “He’s got some good ideas and we put them together on Saturday on the pitch “Yes, we won but I was gutted, I came out of the dressing room disappointed. It didn’t mean anything apart from the fact that we know we can do it. Why couldn’t we produce that performance for the last five games? That’s a question we can’t really answer. We should have and we don’t know why we haven’t." “We know as a squad that we are better than what we’ve shown. We also know we’d a good enough squad here to be in the top three. We can keep saying it but we’ve got to go and prove it." “It’s a big disappointment not to go up and we’re sorry for everyone involved in the club that we’re not. There has always been belief here. It’s just been disappointing with the results we got and the back-to-back losses and if you want to get out of this league then things like that can’t happen.” “There are a lot of games where you can look back on and say we should have won. There was Burton at home when we were 3-0 up and drew 3-3. There have been a few errors and mistakes and we just slid down and down. When you’re on that slide it’s hard to get off. Promotion was within our grasp but we missed it.” Cresswell himself has had a disjointed season with injury lay-offs, however he his now fit and looking to get even fitter and stronger for next season; “I feel fine and fit; a lot fitter than I did five games ago, It’s just a shame it was the last match. First I’m going to have a couple of weeks rest. I’m going to look after myself and then get back in the gym and get ready." “We’ve just got to prepare right over the summer and push on from there.” he added.
