Scott wants to improve against top sides
Boss Andy Scott is still striving for consistency against the top clubs as his Millers side prepare to face Shrewsbury in the FA Cup this weekend.
Scott's men have already drawn with the Shrews in League Two this season, with their only win against the top seven sides coming against Gillingham in August.
Scott admitted to the Star: "We haven't done brilliant against the top sides so far.
“We lost on Saturday but whilst that is disappointing, there were a lot of positives to take from it and I have to convince the players of that,” he said.
“When we do things right, we can cope with anyone in this division and I feel we can be better than anyone. We made Crawley struggle when we were in the ascendancy, got a goal and should have had a few more.”
The good work of Scott's players in the previous six unbeaten games was undone as they failed to take a string of chances, eventually losing 2-1. The defeat added to losses against Burton, Southend and Swindon Town. Rotherham also face a tricky trip to third placed Cheltenham at the end of next month.
Meanwhile Scott is waiting to see if loanee Sam Wood will be given the all clear to be involved in Saturdays cup game. Wood's parent club Brentford face Wrexham but Wood himself could be allowed to feature for the Millers, having not played in the Bees first round tie.
Loanees Guy Branston and Brett Williams are available but Jon Harley will miss out.
