Robins: Finances prove costly

Rotherham United manager Mark Robins has admitted his club's financial problems ended any hope they had of gaining promotion back to League One.

The Millers eventually finished ninth in the table, having been among the contenders for a top-three finish before a ten-point penalty for entering administration ruined their chances.

Robins told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "If we hadn't had a transfer embargo, I'm absolutely confident that we would have been challenging for automatic promotion.

"We were up there for a large proportion of the season and given the finances to do a little bit more business, not a great deal, we would have been fine.

"We need to add to the squad if we can. Every team will have to do that, but we've no money to go and buy players and we'll be using the free transfer market."

Meanwhile, Robins has allowed Millers stalwart Paul Hurst to leave the club, along with Ian Ross, Liam King, Natt Kerr, Simon Harrison and Sam Duncum.
