Rotherham United have assured the Football League that they plan to have a new stadium built in the town by 2012.
The Millers have been forced to leave Millmoor, which has been their home for 101 years, this summer and will play their football at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield next season.
"I'm planning to move forward to get the stadium in Rotherham built and that's the aim and that's what the Football League have been told," said the club's new owner Tony Stewart.
"We've told them we're not going to be at the Don Valley for the next 15 years, they don't want that, they want us in Rotherham.
"This plan is good for Rotherham as a whole not just the football club. We're looking at a future plan for Rotherham. This isn't a quick fix, it's a long fix."
