Rotherham United have agreed to sign free agent striker Derek Holmes, subject to the player passing a medical at Millmoor. The 28-year-old forward has been out of contract since being released by Carlisle United at the end of last season. Holmes made over 100 appearances in two-and-a-half seasons with the Cumbrians. The Lanark-born striker has also played for Hearts, Ross County and Bournemouth during a 12-year professional career. "The 6ft 3in striker is a strong, determined centre-forward," read a club statement. "His knock-downs and flicks bring results for himself and other forwards and he is a handful for any defence."
