Millers look to help Rotherham Utd Ladies
Rotherham United Ladies have found thier finances tough going after recent promotions, Tony Stewart vows to help where he can.
Rotherham United Ladies play in the Premiership North, the second tier of English women's football, howver playing at such a standard has almost cost the club their very existence earlier this year.
Millers chairman Tony Stewart has pledged to help where he can; “Rotherham United Ladies have done well and I don't want a girls team wearing the Rotherham United badge not to be associated with us." He told the Advertiser.
“Obviously all the hard cash is going to Rotherham United, the new training ground and the stadium project but we can offer support in many ways, whether that be through PR, supplying shirts or other things. Meetings will be held in due course.” he added.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Rotherham United Ladies Simon Walker welcomed the news as he spoke of the battle to keep the club alive with the help of sponsors.
“I feel sorry for the girls because it is like they are being penalised for their own success. The potential here is massive. We're playing at a high level and we've got two girls on the England books."
“We have gone close to folding so many times it is untrue but we have managed to scrape through. We are proud to be Rotherham United Ladies and we want to work with Rotherham United.” he added.
