With 8 games left, Steve Evans is still aiming for automatic promotion and urges his team to keep focused on the final furlong.
The Millers will have to ressurect thier form if thier ambitions of automatic promotion are to be realised, Just 1 win from 6 have left the Millers 5 points behind 3rd placed Burton Albion, albeit with a game in hand.
With no game for a fortnight the team are refreshed and the gaffer urges the fans to get behind them in todays game against AFC WImbledon.
“We're on the home straight and we are all aware that now is the time when points make prizes. The lads have freshened up and they're ready to go and we want a big, partisan home crowd to cheer us on to victory today." Evans told the Advertiser.
“Wimbledon are in good form and we need the supporters to stick with us because we might need to win it late on but if we get the victory then it will be a good coach journey down to Gillingham."
“That's a good challenge for us too. They are an excellent side, full of good players, and for me they are nailed on to go up. I've a lot of admira- tion for the job Martin Allen has done there. “They're expecting their best crowd of the season, around 11,000, so it will be like going into the lion's den for us but we have some big-game players and they need to start producing big-game performances.”
“We've got eight games to play and some of the others have only got six so the opportunity is very much there for us."
“I think 80 or even 79 points could be enough for automatic promotion because the top teams are all beating each other and, like ourselves, have lost to sides they shouldn't. A lot of the top teams have also still to play each other. We're going to have good weeks and bad weeks and it is important we keep our focus. A lot of people have written us off but if we can start the run-in with three points today then it will be a big three points.” he added
