It's a funny old game - Mullins
Johnny Mullins talks about going out on loan, coming back and the FA Cup...
Only a matter of weeks ago, it seemed that Johnny Mullins time with the Millers was at an end with him out of the squad and shipped out to Oxford on loan.
But after a recall and subsequent good performances he captained the team in midweek while skipper Ian Sharps was suspended.
“A couple of months ago, I wouldn't have said I'd captain the side again. It's a bit of a turn-around but football is a funny game. Things get thrown up at you and circumstances arise which you don't quite understand or agree with." Johnny told the 'Tiser.
“The loan allowed me to go and play games. I did enjoy my time at Oxford because I wasn't playing before and I wanted to be part of something where I was playing. A lot has been made of me being sent on loan but whatever has happened has happened now and is in the past. I am back here and feel I'm playing OK. I'm enjoying myself and as long as everyone is happy, I'm a Rotherham United player.” he added.
"For whatever reason, it wasn't clicking before I left but slowly it has come right and as we speak everything is going right and long may it continue because we have so many good players in this team. This is the best squad I have personally been involved in. I can see the potential and hopefully we can achieve what we want to ultimately want to achieve and that is to get promoted.”
The defender looked at the FA Cup win in midweek and admitted that the prospect of a big draw should the Millers beat Aldershot excites him; “Before the match on Tuesday we spoke about the magic of the FA Cup and there is a lot of the players who hadn't had a glamour cup tie. It is nights like Tuesday that earn you one of them. We're well aware that we have to go to Aldershot and win but winning is a habit and we have to keep to that."
“As for myself, I'm committed to the club and want to be part of where it is going and I genuinely believe it is going in the right direction and, hopefully, quickly.”
