Former boss expects Millers to challenge
After facing his old club last weekend, former boss Mark Robins expects the Millers to be pushing for promotion.
Talking in todays Advertiser, he said: “I fully anticipate Rotherham to be challenging for promotion this year and certainly in the top six, although some big clubs have come down with a lot of money to spend. “But as you saw on Saturday, Rotherham have got two squads and they're capable. Although there are one or two young ones in there, plenty of money has been spent in the right areas and there are goals in the team."
“They are going to be dan-gerous and having spent five or six months in the division last year, I think Rotherham will be up there.”
Despite the gap between divisions which Robins describes as “massive”, he says that if the club have the resources can prosper; “The ones that have got the backing of their chairmen and real depth to the squad are the ones who will be fighting at the top end,”
“It's certainly an exciting division for Rotherham to be in. There are derbies against Sheffield United now and Wolves and Coventry are in there. Preston are rebuilding now and there are different challenges from clubs like Stevenage, which is not a nice place to go and play. Graham Westley has gone back in there and they play a certain way and it's tough to play against."
“Gillingham have come up with a good core of players and the other promoted teams have got some momentum while the ones that have come down haven't. They're just trying to get a foothold in whichever division they're playing in. If you get a good start then you've got a good chance." he added
