Andy Scott faces a defensive poser

Rotherham United manager Andy Scott faces a defensive poser before the away double-header at Barrow and Bradford City.

With centre-back Guy Branston ruled out for the two away trips, Scott will have to reshuffle his pack.

Branston has not been granted permission to play in the FA Cup first-round tie at non-league Barrow by parent club Bradford and he is also ineligible to play in the Bantams clash a week later because of the terms of his three-month loan agreement. It means the influential defender, who has already served a three-match ban following his dismissal on his "second" Millers debut at Bristol Rovers, will next be available for selection at home to Crawley on November 26.

The candidates vying for the slot alongside Luke Foster in the middle of the back four are Johnny Mullins,Troy Brown and Michael Raynes. Mullins dropped to the bench at home to the Shots as Scott decided to hand Foster a rare start while Wales Under-21 international Brown has not featured since the defeat at Port Vale.

Scott is expected to find out over the next 24 hours whether Jon Harley can play in the FA Cup. The popular left-back, on-loan from Notts County, is poised to stay with the Millers until January. "Jon is playing well and enjoying his football," said Scott. "We will wait and see (on his loan)." Tom Newey is likely to step in if Harley can't play.

Rotherham have sold more than 200 tickets for the tie at Barrow, with just over 400 left. It is the club's first trip to Holker Street since 1969. If a replay is required it will take place on Tuesday November 22, KO 7.45pm.
