The Millers Youth squad could make the move to the new Outokumpu complex in under four weeks, as part of the first steps in developing the new academy complex and training ground..

Tony Stewart acquired the 14-acre former Outokumpu site at Brinsworth during 2011 and the club aim to transform the site into the new Millers state of the art training complex to be used by the junior sides through to the first team squad - and early work has now started.

He told the Advertiser: “The young players will start using it, probably this month, and we are going to finish up with something that resembles a professional training ground.

“As we've seen with the new stadium, preparation makes a big difference, and we'll be applying the same process here. We're looking to try and get grants and we have had options and plans put to us as how to best make use of the space available.

"There's a lot of thought going in and our head groundsman Dave Fellows has been up there with the staff and there are proposals on the table for difference activities.”

Stewart added though: “There is no time scale on it - the new stadium has to take priority. The training ground is very much a long fix, not a short fix.”
