Stewart confident on stadium planning approval
Tony Stewart remains optimistic that initial planning permission will be granted for the Millers new 12,000 all seater stadium next week and work can start in February. Stewart and supporters await the decision from RMBC on the 25th November.And the chairman told todays Tiser: "We are favourably optimistic that things will proceed in a way we think fit. "We want to get planning permission and then start work on the site in February. At the moment we've got four different contractors and four different architects competing for the opportunity to work with us. They are working at their own cost to put forward tenders to prove to us they can build an iconic stadium. "We will short-list the best ones probably in December and then make our nominations in the new year. I'm also anxious to be able to show the supporters some more detailed drawings of how the stadium will look early in the new year." The time scale will be less than two years to get back to town if the initial process in a success. Stewart said: "The stadium has got to be a stylish, head-turning facility that makes Rotherham proud as a club and as a community. You probably only get one opportunity in 100 years to create something like this and there's the scope for hotels, wine bars and community services. "I have bought four-and-a-half acres of extra land down there which will allow for more facilities around the stadium which will act as profit centres going into the football club. We've seen what Chesterfield have done with their new ground.
