Rotherham V Torquay at Don Valley Stadium : Match Preview

03 February 2012 11:01
Defensive headache for Scott Rotherham manager Andy Scott will be forced to select his 17th different defensive combination of the season when Torquay visit Don Valley. The Millers have been beset by injury, suspension and form worries all season and that shows no signs of abating as Michael Raynes serves a one-match ban for his red card in last week's defeat at Dagenham. Johnny Mullins picked up a hamstring injury in the build-up to the Daggers game and he is a doubt, meaning Richard Naylor and Richard Cresswell look set to be the central pairing. Cresswell has been out of action since the reverse fixture with the Gulls in September with a troublesome ankle injury, but despite a lack of match time in the reserves, he should be thrown in. Gareth Evans is still struggling with a back injury and he will be assessed ahead of kick-off. Brett Williams has returned to parent-club Reading after his five-month loan deal so with Scott unable to bring in a new striker before Tuesday's transfer deadline, Lewis Grabban and Alex Revell will continue in attack. The Millers have lost their last three league games and have fallen off the promotion pace. Torquay manager Martin Ling has a fully-fit and suspension-free squad to choose from. However, the Gulls boss will have to slightly adjust his backline following the sale of centre-back Chris Robertson to Preston on transfer deadline day. Brian Saah is set to fill in at the heart of the defence for Ling, who has admitted he is keen to bring in a defender on loan next week. Midfielder Nathan Craig has been handed a three-month deal at Plainmoor after impressing during a trial in Devon, but the relevant paperwork will not be completed in time to guarantee his involvement in the clash. Torquay have won five npower League Two matches in a row, and will be looking to consolidate their position in the play-offs with victory at the Don Valley Stadium.
