Rotherham forced to ring the changes against Rams

Rotherham will have to make changes as they go in search of a fourth successive win when Derby visit New York Stadium.

Greg Halford serves a one-match ban for his red card in the 1-0 win over Middlesbrough while Frazer Richardson suffered a hamstring injury in that game and will be out for several weeks.

Grant Ward is the obvious contender to replace Halford while Stephen Kelly should come in for Richardson.

Richard Wood is also a worry with a hamstring problem, but he has played on through it in the last couple of games and could do again as Neil Warnock's resurgent side look for a win which could move them out of the bottom three.

George Thorne will be back in the Derby squad after sitting out the defeat to QPR.

Having recently missed four matches with a calf injury, Thorne was set to feature for the Under-21 side on Friday but Rams head coach Darren Wassall has now decided against that after seeing the midfielder train "intensely" this week.

Wassall was "frustrated and angry" after the loss at Loftus Road so changes could be likely and Jeff Hendrick, Bradley Johnson, Darren Bent, Nick Blackman and Andreas Weimann are all vying for recalls along with Thorne.

Like Thorne, Will Hughes was pencilled in for the Under-21 game against West Brom but that has come too soon for the 20-year-old, who continues to recover from the serious knee injury he suffered on the opening day of this season. Hughes' return to action will now probably be in Shaun Barker's testimonial match at the iPro Stadium on March 24.
