The Millers travel to bottom club Darlington today and MillersMAD take a look at who the Quakers might field against the Millers. Goalkeepers: Shane Redmond. Date of Birth: 23/03/1989 Height:6' 0" Redmond was signed on loan in the January transfer window from Nottingham Forest. Eralier this year he went on loan to Burton Albion. Easwood Town have also loaned Redmond for who he played over 30 times helping them land the Northern Premier Division title. Made his debut in the Quakers defeat at home against Northampton Town.Nick Liversidge. Date of Birth: 18/07/1988 Height: 6' 4" Nick was signed by previous Darlington boss Dave Penney in the 2008 close season, and was loaned to Whitby Town to gain some experience. However, towards the end of the season after the club went into administration, he was regularly named as a substitute keeper, without making an appearance. Nick has been first choice keeper since David Knight was released from his contract by Steve Staunton. Ashlee Jones. Wycombe Wanderers signed Ashlee on a non contract basis from Fisher Athletic in March 2009, he moved to Darlington in October 2009, as cover for Liversidge. Defenders:Richie Byrne. Height 6 ft 1 in. Left-back Byrne became the eight player signed by Staunton in January. Byrne signed for Shamrock Rovers in the summer of 2000 from Stella Maris F.C. He was Young Player of the Year for the 2000-01 season, he went on to make a total of six appearances in European competition for the Hoops, two in the UEFA Cup and four in the UEFA Intertoto Cup. Between playing for Shamrock Rovers and signing for Darlington Bryne played for, Dunfermline Athletic, Aberdeen, Oldham Athletic, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and St. Johnstone .Mark Bower. Date of Birth: 23/01/1980 Height: 5' 10" Mark was signed in the summer of 2009 after being released by Bradford City where he spent 11 yrs making over 300 appearances for the Bantams. Last season he spent three months on loan at Luton. Ian Miller. Date of Birth: 23/11/1983 Height: 6' 2" Ian signed for Darlo in January 2008 after having two previous loan spells from Ipswich. The popular defender played 25 games for the Quakers last season, he decided to stay at the club when it came out of administration in the summer. Stuart Giddings. Date of Birth: 27/03/1986 Height: 6' 0" Giddings started out at Coventry City. The left-back broke into the Coventry City first-team for his debut at the end of the 2003-04 season, when he came on as a late substitute in the final match of the season. He was one of eight players released by Coventry when Chris Coleman became manager. When released he spent some time at Hinkley United, he left Hinkley in November 2009, to go on a week long trial at Darlington, which he has seen extended enough for him to play in the last half dozen matches. Paul Arnison. Date of Birth: 18/09/1977 Height: 5' 10" Full back Paul Arnison started his career at Newcastle as a trainee before he moved to Hartlepool in March 2000, and finished on the losing side against Quakers in that season's play off semi finals.He was part of the Hartlepool squad that won promotion from League Two in 2002/03 before he moved across country to Carlisle in November 2003 on loan. He helped Carlisle win promotion from the Conference and League Two in successive seasons, before joining Bradford in June 2008.Alan White. Date of birth 22 /03/1976 Height: 6' 0" White firstly signed for home-town team Darlington at the start of the 2007/08 season and went onto make 85 appearances for the Quakers before joining the Luton for the second time in the summer of 2009. He comes back on loan from the Hatters. White has a huge amount of experience having made over 400 league appearances with a number of clubs including, Colchester, Peterborough (loan), Middlesbrough, Boston Utd, Colchester (loan), Notts County, Leyton Orient, Luton and Darlington Midfielders: Gareth Waite. Signed from Spenymoore where he made the central midfield position his own with some commanding displays and also chipped in with his fair share of goals. Gareth was named Player of the year and Committees player of the year last season. Gareth was on trial with Seattle Sounders in the USA last season. As part of the deal, Darlington will play Spennymoor in a pre-season friendly. Simon Madden. Date of birth May 1, 1988 Height: 5' 9" Madden started his career at Leeds Utd as a trainee in 2006. He managed only one appearance at Leeds in a Johnstones Paint Trophy match against Bury. After being released by Leeds in 2008 he had an unsuccessful trial at Cheltenham. He joined Shamrock Rovers in 2008 and went on to make 26 appearances for Shamrock before being released in 2009. He has 2 Under 21 caps for the Republic of Ireland. Gary Dempsey. Date of Birth: 15/01/1981 Height: 5' 9" Gary Dempsey joined Darlington in January 2010 following the end of the 2009 Irish season where he played for St Patrick's Athletic. He joined the Saints in 2008 having signed in late January. He started his career at Waterford United before signing for Dunfermline in 2001. He made nearly fifty league starts for the club before being signed by Aberdeen in April 2005. His spell in Scotland was ended when he moved south of the border to Yeovil Town before the start of the 2007/08 season. It turned out to be only a short stay as he moved in January to join St Patrick's. central midfield position his own with some commanding displays. Jeff Smith. Date of Birth: 28/06/1980 Height: 5' 11" Jeff began his career with Hartlepool but was released in 1999 and after a brief spells at Bishop Auckland in their UniBond League days, was transferred to Premiership club Bolton. After impressing boss Sam Allardyce, signing a three-year deal in summer 2001, he made just eight league and cup appearances for the Trotters, as well as having loan spells with Macclesfield, Scunthorpe, Rochdale and Preston, before signing for Port Vale in June 2004. Jeff played a total of 103 league and cup games for the Stoke club over two-and-a-half years before Carlisle paid £60,000 for him in January 2007. The midfielder played 65 games for the Cumbrians before being released this summer.Gary Smith. Date of Birth: 30/01/1984 Height: 5' 8" Gary was released by Boro in July 2004 after graduating through the club's Academy set-up. He'd had a two-month loan stint with MK Dons and went on to sign for the club permanently that summer (2004), playing 80 league and cup games during three seasons. He was released by MK Dons in August 2007 and signed for Brentford in a deal which was later extended to the end of the 2008-09 season. The 25-year-old was released this summer, having played 36 games for the Bees. Gary scored the winner at Don Valley against the Millers.Nathan Mulligan. Nathan signed for Darlington in October 2009 from non-league side Norton and Stockton Ancients. Prior to this the midfielder had been with Middlesbrough but illness prevented him from making a career at the Riverside. He spent three seasons with the Northern League outfit after recovering. During that time he clocked up over 100 appearances. The right sided midfielder also has an eye for goal scoring twenty-five whilst with Norton. He was also part of the Norton side which won promotion from Northern League Division 2 during the 2008/09 Strikers:Patrick Dean. Striker Patrick dean joins the Quakers after being released by Hibernian. Deane was part of the Hibernians all conquering, treble winning, U19 side last season. Dean is a 19 year old Irish forward who has not played for the Hibs first team as yet but given Darlo`s poor record in front of goal the young forward could well be in the squad against the Millers.MillersMad's One to Watch. Tadhg Purcell. Date of birth 09/02/1985 Height: 5' 11" Purcell, 24, can play either as a striker or on the wing and joins from Shamrock Rovers for whom he played against Real Madrid last summer. Tadhg originally received a soccer scholarship off University College Dublin A.F.C. (UCD AFC), where he played the beginning of his senior career. Purcell moved to Kilkenny City in 2005, he spent a season there then moved to Shamrock Rovers for the 2006 season. While at Shamrock Rovers he made 104 appearances scoring 28 goals. Tadhg scored on his debut for the Quakers against the Millers at Don Valley.James Collins. Date of birth 23/08/1983 Height: 5'7'' Striker signed on loan from Aston Villa in October 2009 James is a product of Villas youth set-up. Since signing James has made 6 appearances and scored a couple of goals.Lee Thorpe. Date of Birth: 14/12/1975 Height:6' 0" Lee has enjoyed a 15-year career in the game so far, scoring more than 111 career league and cup goals from just under 500 games. The 33-year-old began his career with Blackpool in 1994 but signed for Lincoln City in 1997 and he scored 66 goals from 222 games in five years at Sincil Bank. He then signed for Leyton Orient and spent just under two years there, including a loan spell with Grimsby, before joining Bristol Rovers in 2004. He then had brief spells with Swansea, Peterborough, Torquay and Brentford before signing for Rochdale in January 2008. He scored seven goals in 44 games for the Dale before being released this summer. Yet to get on the score sheet this term.Curtis Main. Date of Birth: 20/06/1992 Height:5' 10" Curtis became the youngest ever outfield player for the club when he made his debut as a substitute in a league game at Peterborough in May 2008 when he was still a month short of his 16th birthday. He then became the club's youngest ever goalscorer when he scored the winning goal against Grimsby in February 2009, and he scored another goal against Aldershot a month later. Several clubs from higher up the ladder are keeping an eye on his progress. Curtis has a couple of goals to his name this term.
