New York will be the 12th Man - Mullins

Speaking to the Advertiser today, skipper Johnny Mullins says he can't wait to get back into Rotherham and have a home advantage.

"The new ground could make a massive difference, Everyone has spoken about the atmosphere at Don Valley and it is difficult because you are so far away from the crowd, and that goes for the away teams as well. In fact it is probably just as difficult for the supporters to watch there when it is flat sometimes than it is for us to play in it"

"But we won't use that as an excuse. It's a football pitch at the end of the day with white lines and the two goals, but we are all looking forward to playing at home when we've got the crowd roaring us on."

However Mullins admits that the Millers need a team to match the New York Stadium; "It's OK having a good stadium but we need a winning side with a winning mentality to go out and finish the job, I remember going to Chesterfield last season. They had a great atmosphere there and they were bouncing and that's what a new ground can do, but first and foremost you have to have a team on there that's giving them something to shout about."

"I'm sure the '12th man' can be worth a few points a season but as I said, it's a football pitch and the players have got to get the crowd onside and join in."

Before the Millers make the move home, theres a few games left that matter; "We have six games to go and we want to finish as strongly as we can and go into next season on a positive. I signed here to get promotion and I've signed again and that's what I want to achieve, especially going into the new stadium. That's what we all wan but there is a real feeling for promotion. We are a big club for this league and we all want to get out of it." he added.
