Moore: Pathetic defending cost us

Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore felt his side paid the price for poor defending in the first half of his team's 3-1 defeat at Gillingham. Gillingham striker Cody McDonald netted a first-half double either side of Jason Taylor's goal, before Dennis Oli secured the points for the Gills in the dying minutes. "In the first half our defending was pathetic," said Moore. "We couldn't handle Cody McDonald and you're never going to win games defending like that. "He looked dangerous every time he got the ball but both of his goals were avoidable, it was just rank bad defending. "We changed up the shape in the second half and to be fair to us we certainly improved. I thought it was definitely a hand ball on the line for Ian's (Thomas-Moore) strike and then they go up the other end and kill the game off. "It should have been 2-2, and then two minutes later its 3-1 and it's all over."
