Moore may be forced to strengthen back line

With all the talk of a lack of firepower, it's the other end of the field that will also be concerning boss Ronnie Moore at the moment as he faces the prospect of just three available defenders for the seasons opener. It's been a far from ideal pre-season for the club, with five defeats on the spin for the youth and first teams and only three goals scored in that time. And whilst results mean little and it's all about players building fitness, the injury front is looking bleak after the latest first team loss at Alfreton on Tuesday night. The Millers take on Tamworth on Saturday hoping that striker Tom Elliott will return, but the expected runout of Johnny Mullins looks unlikely. It's feared that although Mullins was cleared using X-rays of a serious injury to his lower leg in a behind closed doors fixture, there could be a small hairline fracture which keeps the player out of training.Dale Tonge is also on the treatment table until September and with the injury to Nick Fenton in Tuesday's game, Luke Ashworth is suspended for the August 7th opener against Lincoln leaving Moore with only Ryan Cresswell available to play centre half on the opening day if injuries remain a headache.Left footed Jamie Green has been filling in at right back, with Tom Newey the only other defender on the books but even he is carrying a slight knock.Moore is hoping Fenton's calf will heal within a week or he may have to seek loan cover centrally, whilst also continuing his search for another striker.MillersMAD has no further news on the rumours linking the club with a £150,000 bid for Aldershot's Marvin Morgan.Welcome to MillersMadHere's our LATEST Messageboard topics
