Millers receive planning boost

The Millers, forced to play home games at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield and train at Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium since leaving Millmoor at the end of last season, hope to return to a new site on Roughwood Road. Rotherham Borough Council's strategic director for environment and development services Karl Battersby confirmed the authority had agreed in principle to lease this particular area of land to the club, but this was only the start of a long process. He said: "The details of the lease have yet to be finalised, but we have had on-going discussions with the clubs who currently use the site and they are positive about the opportunities this proposal will bring." Millers chief operating officer Paul Douglas said: "We have in principle been granted a lease on a piece of land on Roughwood Road and will now work on obtaining the necessary planning permission, which will in turn require that we consult with the people in the area, to enable this development to happen. "It's vital for the future of the football club that we have a training base and academy of our own, here in Rotherham. This together with our own new stadium will provide the people of Rotherham access to facilities comparable to our neighbours in Sheffield, Barnsley and Doncaster."
