The Millers, who have drawn up a shortlist of eight candidates, are expected to make a managerial appointment this week. Thornber, the club's head of youth and caretaker following the departure of Mark Robins to Barnsley, told the Sheffield Star: "The new man coming in will be in a fortunate position because they are a good set of lads here. "They have shown themselves to be solid professionals who have responded very well in the recent circumstances. "Of course, I knew them beforehand, but it has been enjoyable working with them. They have responded very well to the past couple of weeks, shown me respect and given me everything. "It seems that we could have a new manager in time for Saturday's home game with Barnet and he will be pleased with what he finds. I think they are good enough to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season."
