Evans had expected to announce a deal today for a young wide player, with Yeovil's Kieran Agard and Shrewsbury's Lionel Ainsworth just two of the rumoured targets.
But the potential deal has now broken down at this stage, along with talks to capture the signature of a central midfield player.
The news comes after the club were reportedly close to sealing the signing of Michael O'Connor from Scunthorpe.
