Millers begin life after Steve Evans

Life after Steve Evans begins for Rotherham, with the Scot's shock exit from the Championship club still shrouded in mystery.

Evans, who took the Millers' reins in 2012, enjoyed unrelenting success in South Yorkshire, masterminding a rise from League Two to the Championship, where he then kept them up last season.

After a poor start to this campaign, the Millers look to have turned a corner taking seven points from their last four games, which has included back-to-back wins.

However, less than 48 hours after a 2-0 success at Birmingham, Evans' time in charge of the Millers was over after a showdown meeting with chairman Tony Stewart on Monday.

A statement revealed that both parties wanted to head in "different directions", with the club later going on to express their "surprise" at events.

Rumours of a bust-up between Evans and Stewart, who have enjoyed such a close relationship, have been rife and the timing of his departure adds weight to the argument of a disagreement behind the scenes.

Coach Eric Black, who has been handed the caretaker role, will continue to take charge on the training pitch, having led training on Monday.

The Millers face Burnley in a televised encounter on Friday night before they pause for the international break, where they are expected to step up the recruitment process.

The club have insisted they will not comment any further until a successor is found, with former Sheffield Wednesday manager Stuart Gray, former Leeds boss Neil Redfearn and ex-Reading manager Brian McDermott the early frontrunners.

Meanwhile, Evans has been made 2/1 second favourite to become Doncaster's new manager.
