Millers Groundsman Jim Davison is aiming for the pitch at Don Valley to be in a pristine condition in time for the new season. Half the pitch was left in a poor condition after the U2 concert last summer,and came in for a lot of criticism from visiting managers. Now it has been stripped right back and this week Davison told the Advertiser how he is confidant of having a top pitch for the Millers to play on, Davison said:"The pitch has been totally stripped back. It's been put back in the same condition as it was when the stadium first opened 20 years ago. "The pitch has been re-seeded and the grass is now peeping through. Now it just needs nurturing, rolling and some TLC. "I'm confident we will have a fantastic pitch next year and this time we will be setting off literally on a level playing field."Huddersfield's Lee Clark was just one manager who left no doubt of his opinion of the surface."The Huddersfield manager said the pitch wasn't fit to play on and when you hear comments like that it does hurt." "Thanks to the support of Sheffield International Venues, next season we will have a playing surface to be proud of and I want to give special thanks to (general manager) Pat Smith, who has been a massive help. "Apart from one more Sheffield Eagles game, we've got a clear run now to get the pitch in tip top shape for the first pre-season friendly towards the end of July
