Jerome Thomas joins Dad's Army at Rotherham

Jerome Thomas' arrival at Championship strugglers Rotherham on Wednesday saw them continue their trend of signing free agents heading into the twilight of their careers this season.

Thomas, 32, put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the campaign but the Millers, who have also taken 33-year-old Lloyd Doyley on trial, will hope he has more impact than the other veterans who are already at the club.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at the Millers' Dad's Army and how they have fared.

Leon Best

The 29-year-old was without a club since leaving Blackburn in the summer but signed a deal with the Millers in November after impressing on trial. He made his debut in the 1-0 win at Leeds but his day ended in disappointment as he received a straight red card in the 72nd minute. To make matters worse he aggravated a groin injury in training while suspended and has yet to return to the side having had surgery in January.

Stephen Kelly

Kelly - a former Republic of Ireland international - joined the Millers in the same week as Best after failing to find a new club despite turning a new deal down at Reading in the summer. He too made his debut at Elland Road but suffered a calf injury the following week on his home debut. A return for the 32-year-old a fortnight later was cut short at half-time in a 2-0 win over Hull and he has not featured since, meaning he has managed just 179 minutes.

Luciano Becchio

The 32-year-old Argentinian returned for a second spell at New York Stadium in January after proving his fitness over a two-week trial. Becchio had been without a club since his Norwich exit in the summer and made two substitute appearances for the Millers last month, racking up 68 minutes on the pitch. However, he sustained a calf injury in training and having previously fallen out with new boss Neil Warnock when the pair were at Leeds, he is unlikely to pull on the Millers shirt again.
