I've scored better - Ainsworth

Lionel Ainsworth scored a screamer at the KC last weekend as the Millers drew 1-1 with Hull, to be beaten on a penalty shootout.

But speaking to the Advertiser today, the 24 year old say's although the goal was a good one, he's scored better.

"Someone said to me that's got to be your best goal. It comes close, but to be honest I've scored one better at Wycombe Wanderers for Shrewsbury. I took then touches from the half-way line and scored with my left foot in the top corner from 30 yards out."

“I caught Saturday's goal well but I don't remember much about it to be honest. The ball came over and I just hit it. I remember seeing the ball hit the bar and then bounce down. I looked at the linesman and realised he was flagging for it and it was in."

"But for the boys to get all the way through extra time and play the way we did and lose, we were unlucky. The team did really well and we all put a good shift in. We should have had more decisions but on the day it didn't go our way.” he added.

After coming off the bench at Hull, he's hoping to secure a starting place in the team for future games; “I would have liked to start but that's football. I know I'll get my chance and I think I put in a good enough shift. Last year I set up 15 goals and got a couple which wasn't enough for my liking but I've done my job for the strikers. That's what I'm meant to do but when you weigh in with goals it's better and it gives you a better chance."

“Competition is a vital thing. We've got great players here and we will show that we're enjoying the competition for places. If you're not then you shouldn't be in football. If you don't like a challenge and are just happy sitting on the bench, you shouldn't be in the game.”
