Impressive Pringle aims for promotion

Midfielder Ben Pringle, who has caught the eye with some fine pre-season displays, talks to the Star about his background and the aims with Rotherham United. Pringle has impressed playing on the left of midfield during the millers pre-season friendlies and can also play in the middle if required. And the former Ilkeston man thinks if the team can get the right balance throughout the season then they'll be challenging for honours. After spending time out on loan from Derby last season, he said: “I played a few games at Torquay last year so I know what to expect. “We won most of the games, although most of them seemed more like fighting matches than football games. “The gaffer wants to play football but at times we are going to have to get physical. There will be times when we will have to try and battle our way out of the league. “You have to be able to mix it up at this level. When I played for Ilkeston, we were successful because we managed to play football and got physical. If we can do both, then we should be alright.” Pringle became gaffer Andy Scott’s first summer signing back in June and said it was Scott that convinced him to leave Derby with a year to run on his contract. “It was hard,” he said. “There were a few times I would play and the team would play well and win and I would do well and the next week I would be out. “Other players would come in and the team would lose and they would still play and I would not get given a chance. I’m not bitter about that. Obviously Nigel Clough brought me into the club in the first place from no where and I appreciate that. He changed my life so I can’t be bitter. “I just think I could have done a lot more if I had been given a chance.” Ben added: “With the way the club is run and the players we have got, it would be a massive underachievement if we didn’t get promotion.  “Our main target is to avoid the play-offs and push to win the league.”
