He's got to be successful - Stewart

As the hunt for a new boss starts, Chairman Tony Stewart tells Radio Sheffield that any applicant must be successful.

As the Millers look for a new manager, Tony Stewart was asked about the backroom staff, most of which former boss Andy Scott brought to the club.

"The backroom staff have been discussed and the backroom staff are part of Rotherham and they want to stay is the message that I've got from them."

Tony was asked if he would be happy with that and question about the expense should the new boss want his own men to come in.

"I think everything's expensive, what you've got to remember is that failures as expensive as success, investment is about getting what you can from the investment you've made. Investment never stops, it's a case of two evils, as you know in this job your damned if you don't and damned if you do. Decisions have to be made and we've made a decision today and we'll move forward with that. With regard to any other manager coming in then that manager, and thats open to any offers out there wether the managers employed or out of a job, I'm inviting them to apply for a job, a career an ambition with regard with what we've got to offer which I think is a lot. I think you can't read into anything bar getting that manager down on the day and seeing what baggage he's got, seeing what investment that is and making a decision on the back of that."

"I've got no-one lined up for the job. I've got no concieved thoughts or ideas with regards to any names that you might put to me. I've had one phone call from a manager who I'll not name but news travels fast and I'm hoping the phone starts ringing and we start getting cards and we start getting a good demand from potential managers."

"I think the profile has got to be at board level, we'll look at the calibre of people coming in, you know I took over 4 years ago and I've always said I'm not the top man with a lot of knowledge about football, but what I have got is a lot of sources around me and I do seek advice on that, I think what we're wanting in a simple answer is a successful manager, what that comes from be it young, old, ugly or infirm it doesn't matter. It's about the board sitting down and looking at the options that we've got."

"I can't stereotype the kind of guy that we want, apart from saying one word that he needs to be successful."

"I've employed people for 40 years, and I'm still learning everyday, for me it's about making decisions wether it being a business or a football club and we've made a decision today. Will it cost us more money? Yes it will, but at the end of the day I can't be optimistic with my wallet and pessimistic with my head. What I mean by that, is we've got to have the right person to do the job and I think all managers today know when they're coming for a job, especially at Rotherham United that the demands are high, we want people to get us from A to Z as quickly as possible and if we can see that development that will extend that persons job with regard to Rotherham United."

"What I'd like to do with the board is look at the calibre of managers applying for the job, If one of those cards said Alex Fergusson on then I would knee jerk and be on a bus to Manchester today, but he's not the person that phoned!."
